Why would you want to minify CSS and what does it mean?
Minification of cascading style sheets means converting this

And why would you need this?
The file is smaller which results in a quicker transfer from server to browser.
Tools
There are serveral tools which minify and compress in different ways, I just used a website called https://cssminifier.com/ for demonstration.
Other tools might also remove comments and therefor compress even further.
No real ‘best practice’ or ‘way (or tool) to go’ exists when it comes to minification but tools do for every editor or IDE I have used so far which might automatically minify CSS files as soon as the developer saves or changes are detected (with a watcher).
While I just gave the first of two examples, namely the ‘watchers’ in PHPStorm (and derivates), I want to give credit to minify by HookyQR for Visual Studio Code.
Those are great tools which just take the otherwise more or less hardcore shell commands from you
(yui-compressor finename.css > filename.min.css
) in a most convenient way.
